About MouseTester.pro
MouseTester.pro is a small, independent set of free tools for checking a computer mouse in the browser. It started from a simple need: finding out whether a mouse is really faulty before sending it back, without installing a driver or a diagnostic program from an unknown source.
Why MouseTester.pro exists
Most mouse problems show up slowly. A left button starts to double click once a day, a scroll wheel jumps now and then, a new mouse feels faster than the old one at the same DPI setting. It is hard to tell whether the problem is the hardware, a driver, a game setting or just imagination. MouseTester.pro is built to settle that question in a minute, with a clear result you can screenshot for a warranty claim or a support ticket.
What the tools do
Each page tests one thing and tells you clearly what the result means. The main mouse tester checks every button and the wheel; the other pages look at double clicking, scroll jumping, real DPI and polling rate. They work with any mouse, touchpad or trackball that your browser can see, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
How the tests work
All tests use standard web APIs: mouse, wheel and pointer events, high-resolution timestamps, coalesced and raw pointer events, and pointer lock with unadjusted movement where the browser supports it. There is no server-side processing at all. When a browser limits what can be measured, the page says so next to the result.
Accuracy
Button and double click results are exact: the browser either received a press or it did not, and timings are precise to well under a millisecond. DPI and polling rate are measurements with some error, mainly from hand movement and browser limits. Each page explains how to get the most reliable reading.
Supported devices and browsers
- Mice: wired, 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth mice from any brand, including gaming mice with extra side buttons.
- Other pointing devices: touchpads, trackballs and pen tablets work for buttons and scrolling; DPI and polling rate results only make sense for mice.
- Browsers: current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Brave. Chrome and Edge give the most precise DPI and polling rate readings because they expose raw input.
- Phones and tablets: the pages work, but a touch screen only has a single "button", so most tests are meant for a computer.
How MouseTester.pro is funded
The tests are free and will stay free. The site may show a small number of ads to pay for hosting and development. Ads never cover the test area, and no test result is ever used for advertising, because test data never leaves your browser.
Privacy
Nothing you do in a test leaves your device. See the Privacy Policy for the details, including the services that load fonts and host the site.
